On June 3, 2017, it was my honor to be elected Commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Department of Wisconsin, for 2017-2018. As the new DAV State Commander, I want to thank the Immediate Past Commander John Polk and his leadership team for the direction in which our Department is going in. I want to continue that forward movement, but it can only be done with your involvement.
As I step forward in this NEW YEAR as your Commander, I want to thank you for your support. I want all of us to step up and learn more about DAV. To fulfill that goal, District and Chapter Commanders will need to work and educate our members. Share your knowledge!
Communication is a key goal of mine. Our Executive Committee Members will be on a phone conference call each month. I also have asked the DAV Auxiliary Commander to be on these calls so we can hear more about their organization.
Additionally, let’s continue working on those Local Veterans Assistance Program (LVAP) hours. The site is still there but a new way of reporting is taking place. Use the new way until you hear that DAV360 is up and running.
I want the membership to continue to move forward in recruitment and retention of new members. New members mean new ideas, if we allow them to speak up and to be listened to.
I’d like to see us all learn more about what the DAV does. When we hold those Forget-Me-Nots many individuals have questions of us. Be informed to tell these individuals what we are all about.
Membership for the 2016-2017 year has resulted in a “Meritorious Service” letter from DAV National for the Department. However, it is the membership as a whole that has stepped forward to make this Department go beyond its goal to 100.58% with 82 over goal. Great Job!
