Our public and political leaders in Washington need to be kept informed of the challenges they face returning to normal life. DAV’s legislative grassroots campaign makes sure they know what they need to do.

DAV’s multi-aspect legislative campaign provides this education and support in the capitol and across the country. Take some time here and learn how DAV is working with lawmakers on your behalf. DAV National Resolutions

The first step to supporting our veterans is identifying the pressing issues they face every day. Every year DAV National Convention delegates identify the most important issues and create a set of Resolutions designed to improve the lives of veterans throughout the United States.

All DAV positions on issues are based on these Resolutions.  Below are the Resolutions passed by the DAV National Convention delegates for the upcoming year.

DAV Testimony before Congress

Each year the DAV National Commander and members of the DAV National Legislative Staff testify before Congressional Committees and Subcommittees giving valuable insight on issues directly affecting the men and women who served.  This is their Testimony.

DAV Summary of the Issues

For brevity, many important issues are condensed into Briefs.  To be better informed on important issues, please read these Issue Briefs.

The Independent Budget

The Independent Budget is formulated by DAV, AMVETS, Paralyzed Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States in order to provide budget recommendations to the Department of Veterans Affairs. These recommendations are based on a systematic methodology that takes a wide range of factors into account.

DAV and its co-authors have worked for over 23 years to provide budgetary recommendations that are based on facts, rigorous analysis, and sound reasoning.

We owe our veterans an immense debt of gratitude for their service to the country and are obligated to provide them with the best care possible.  The Independent Budget seeks to ensure Veterans receive this care by providing responsible, intelligent budget recommendations.

DAV Mid-Winter Conference

The DAV Mid-Winter Conference is held each year in the Washington DC area.  It consists of valuable presentations, seminars and reports.  Many key legislators and VA representatives, including the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, have addressed the attendees.

Mid-Winter is a 5 day event held annually on the last week in February.  It commences on Saturday and ends the following Wednesday morning.  On Tuesday, the DAV National Commander testifies before a Joint Session of the House and Senate VA Committees.

On that day, Wisconsin DAV presents key issues to the Washington Offices of the Wisconsin legislators on Capitol Hill.  During the Conference, we meet directly with some of our elected officials, stressing our priorities and presenting DAV Issue Briefs.

Among the Wisconsin DAV members attending Mid-Winter are the State Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Adjutant, and Legislative Director.
